A lot of apps on your phone quickly fill up the storage, and it can be very difficult to figure out where that space has gone. The system will often show you what types of files are taking up space, but not where they are, and the options to clean up space are quite limited.
The files taking up all your space could be the cache from an app, or it might be data storage from a music or video app, or maybe it's time to backup and delete all your photos.
The most important feature we wanted to have was to display the used space as simply as possible, and allow the user to quickly delete unnecessary files. Alternatively, it can be used to move the files to another storage device such as a hard drive or SD card.
When you start the app, it lists the storage devices found on the device. This will include the Internal Storage and, where possible, external storage such as thumb drives, SD cards, and even hard drives. Where possible, it will show the total amount of space used and how much is available in a simple pie chart (some devices require further permissions to be granted before the size can be shown - this will happen when you ask for a detailed scan).
Other storage devices and folders can be selected if the app doesn't find the right ones on its own.
You can then scan any of the items listed to get a more detailed analysis of the space used. On the main screen, this will still be shown as a small pie chart, with a little more detail included about the nature of how the space is used.
Selecting an item will show a detailed view of the top folder of the device, giving a breakdown of the percentage that each file or sub-folder takes up. You can drill down deeper into the folder structure to find where large files and folders are. At any level, you can select files or folders for deleting or moving (via cut and paste).
Have a look at the Help page for more information about how to use it, and how to customise how the information is shown.
The app has undergone a number of changes to stay as relevant as possible.
Storage space is increasing on most modern devices which can make it less likely for your device to fill up and need cleaning. However, as the storage space has increased, so has the size of apps and the files they create - with technologies such as 5G Internet and 4K video being available, it is likely that even on high end devices, local storage space will always be a problem.
New versions of Android have also introduced changes. With each new version, Android have restricted the way apps access files in order to prevent them taking up too much space and leaving a big footprint even after they are installed. However, the problem can never be totally eliminated, and while the apps are installed they can still happily fill up your whole storage without you knowing. So we are doing everything we can to be able to help you find out which apps are doing that, so you can stay ahead as well.
